I got my band from Scott after watching a debate and discussing my team with him. What Scott didn't know is that I'm a grieving parent whose son passed just a few months ago. My son would have loved this movement! This gift of a band was a happy reminder of his active caring. I look forward to passing it on.

I was sitting with a friend eating during my lunch break in a building that's about 15 minutes away from my work place and saw someone that worked with me whom I haven't seen in a long time. While almost passing me by, I called out his name and I asked him where he's been because it was so long since I've seen him. He asked me if I had a moment for him to share with me and I told him yes so I moved aside so he could sit next to me. I discovered that he now works in that building and shared with me the story of why he quit his previous job. He later thanked me and told me that I didn't have to let him set next to me because I was sitting with my friend eating lunch but I did. He told me that I was one of the first today to be a listening ear to him and engage him in conversation today especially because he wasn't in the best mood. He shared with me the story of the bracelet and told me to pass it on. Who knew something as simple as letting someone share there story with me and letting them sit next to me would brighten their day. I realize that sometimes we don't understand what a person is going through so we should think about others by extending an act of kindness, it goes a long way.

I have been brought back to health by someone who demonstrated a limitless amount of compassion, care and concern. Who I'm sure depleted themselves in doing so, to ensure my return to good health. This person studied various natural remedies by which to help heal my body, and diligently brewed, stirred, and concocted these remedies every few hours over many days. The world needs more healers like them.

I received my wristband at the BABAT conference in Amherst, MA last week, and was inspired by Geller's talk. In this time of uncertainty during the election process in the US, a friend of mine posted a lovely piece on Facebook about despite that uncertainty how he would continue to hold open doors for people, smile at strangers, let cars pull in front of him, etc. This gave me pause to think of all the things that we do, and how doing more of this would create a better world no matter how the election turns out. I passed this wristband onto him, and told him about the project.

As simple as a scantron

I currently work at the West Virginia University bookstore and there tends to be big rushes of college students who are getting scantrons for their exams many times throughout the week. During one of the rushes I had probably already rang up around 10 to 15 students, getting one scantron each. This guy came up to the register and bought his scantron, and then proceeded to give me a dollar to pay for the next persons scantron. The person behind him was surprised that someone would do that, and was very appreciative for something that small. She even said that it had made her day. I thought it was only appropriate to give him the wristband as he showed someone a small act of kindness.

Thus begins the first journey for this specific bracelet! I can't wait to see all of the kindness and compassion that is acknowledged through the passing of this bracelet. Here's to AC4P!

I have strong memories of helping my mother in the kitchen either for special occasions or family dinners: cooking, setting the table, cleaning up. I have strong memories of eating dinner EVERY night with my family. Somehow, my family of 3 has been able to preserve eating together almost every night. It is something I cherish. Someday, my son may feel the same way about this special time we spend together as a family and with our extended families: our friends. We invited five families for a picnic recently. Ethan, my husband and I spent most of the day cleaning and preparing food. Ethan took it on himself to clean his living room. He also spent time helping me make deviled eggs and some other side dishes. And, when guests arrived, he greeted them and throughout the evening made sure he mingled and made them feel comfortable. He recently told me he was "working the room" at a post-band reception....just like me. Hospitality is important to not only the receiver, but the person giving as well. I'm so happy that my son goes out of his way to create a welcoming environment in our home and at outside events. Ethan, thank you so very much for actively caring.
